there’s just something about italy: 6 days in sardinia

November 4, 2012

That’s right, we’re in Italy! The beautiful island of Sardegna to be exact. Just couldn’t resist paying a visit to our favorite country in Europe while in this neck of the world’s woods. Rented a car for 2 of our 6 days here. Drove around the northern coast of the island, listening to Adele’s “Skyfall” and pretending we were Bond girls in our black Bondmobile, seeking out the best beaches Sardegna had to offer. Unfortunately, we’re Bond girls on a budget and couldn’t afford a car AND accommodation and thus had to sleep those two nights in the rental sans showers or clean clothes, so you may need a bit of a creative eye (otherwise known as nearsightedness) to play our game, though we managed just fine.

Flying to Barcelona tomorrow morning, and then it’s off to Brazil the next day. In the meantime, here are some nuggets fresh from Sardegna:

The car was small, but considering we only had our backpacks, it worked well. Plus, it was the only automatic vehicle they had — and I wasn’t about to learn stick shift in Italy.

Although it was too cold to go swimming or lay out, it was nice visiting the island in early November because we had the beaches all to ourselves.

The architecture style of the towns was very Mediterranean and absolutely stunning.

It was a lovely 6 days of chasing sunsets and drinking good red wine — although the highlight of my entire trip has got to be this. 20121104-195355.jpgThe best pizza I’ve ever had. EVER. If you go to the city of Cagliari in Sardegna, please promise me that you’ll stop in at Lo Zodiaco, the greatest pizzeria in the world.
